International Year of Family Farming in 2014

It is a victory for civil society organisations whom for the first time in history, have promoted an international year.
Adopted at the UN general assembly, 2014 has been declared the “International year of family farming”. The organizations adhering to the IYFF see it as a unique opportunity to fulfil many of the aspirations of farmers, pastoralists, traditional fishers and indigenous communities. They want to promote family farming not just as an economic model, but as the basis of sustainable food production, of the management of natural resources, as a fountain of cultural traditions and as a fundamental pillar in the development of nations.
